Lisa AdamsThe Future of Paradise Past
January 10 – February 14, 2009
Artist Dialogue : Wednesday, February 4, 7 – 9 pm
Listen to Molly Barnes Interview with Lisa Adams here
Lawrence Asher Gallery is proud to present a dozen recent oil paintings by Lisa Adams. Entitled, The Future Of Paradise Past, the exhibition continues Adams’ examination of a less than Edenic netherworld, containing birds, botanical elements and enigmatic structures, offering the viewer an opportunity for Koan-like contemplation.
As James Scarborough writes in the catalogue essay that will accompany the show,
“Her work’s not so much a process of entropy as imperfection, things don’t become cocked-up, things are cocked-up right from the start. It’s a message that broaches a spirituality of imperfection. Once it does so, it’s up to the viewer to make peace, find eddies of beauty and serenity, where they can find it, on the canvas and, especially, beyond.”
