Artist Statement
A familiar vista, banal as it may seem on the surface, triggers a thought, a moment or perhaps a familiar feeling.
I use representational methods to springboard into various degrees of abstraction. Architectural, engineering, urban and natural references help me create environments familiar and sometimes forgotten. I carefully position these references according to their impact on the total effect in the painting. The partial section of a bridge span in a painting creates a gravity conflict. How far are the supports from the edge of the painting? Are they even there... the viewer will resolve these questions drawing from his or her own experience. The cropped trunk of a tree implies a continuity that the viewer is responsible to implement. The photographic feel of the works intends to engage and "trick" the viewer. Once involved, they will hopefully resolve or propose answers to the different questions.

Artist Bio
Born in Mazatlán, Mexico, Osuna lived in that port city until the age of 17. Always interested in the fine arts, he started experimenting with oil painting at a very early age, depicting seascapes and scenes from his native town. He then moved to Guadalajara, to study at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, where he completed his bachelor degree in architecture, and studies in architectural illustration. He continued to be active in the arts during his studies, exploring watercolor and acrylic painting.
Shortly after graduation, Osuna had his first exhibition in Mazatlán. He returned to Guadalajara to join a major architectural company and worked there for two years, never abandoning his brushes as he gained experience in his architectural career. In the mid-eighties he moved to California, settling in Los Angeles where he worked in the fields of architecture, interior design and production design for tv before devoting full time to his fine art studio.
Osuna has presented solo exhibitions throughout California, and participated in group shows in the US and Europe. Recently, his work was included in the itinerant exhibition “Mirrors: Mexican Talent in the US”, organized and curated by the Institute of Mexican Culture in Washington, DC. He recently returned from Mexico, where he presented his solo exhibition “Postcards from Zacatecas: Visions from a Visitor”, by invitation from the Casa de la Cultura in Zacatecas. Osuna’s work has been mentioned and featured in art publications like ArtNews Magazine and Lifescapes Magazine.
