Leora Lutz Leora Lutz statement March 2008     My manner is driven by emotions coupled with general global and modern socio-political dynamics. My execution challenges to bridge the gap between academic art discourse and mere decoration.    There are 2 bodies of work that I have been pursuing in the last 3 years:   URBAN APOCALYPSE 2007 The stories I convey are broad and at once inclusive. These paintings are also viewed as the sky in poetic metaphor - the way it is vast and ever changing, and that no two days are alike. The techniques I employ reinforce my intent to create a visceral response without alienating the viewer and sometimes inspiring laughter.   Direct applied influences are Hudson River School landscapes of the 1800's, Contemporary Abstract painting and photos taken in my neighborhood of Los Angeles. Indirect influences include: Orwell and Wells, Mc Inerny and Machiavelli, Gibran and Grimm, Foucault and Faulkner - to name a few.   CITY SILHOUETTES (2-tones) These little 5" paintings originally started as color studies and sketch series for larger works. In time, a concept formed that is based upon Pop Art ideas of replication and accessibility, but with the added irony of using traditional fine art applications.   I recently re-titled the entire series with nostalgic references from the ‘20s to the ‘80s – of childhood, fancy people, fancy things and fancy times, punk rock and pop rocks, television, movies and more.   _______________________________________________ Education 1989-1992 - Cal.State Fullerton.
