Art Weeks

I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, Acrylic on canvas, 36" x 72"

Artist Bio

Art Weeks was born in the small town of Orange, Texas, just across the border from the swamps of Louisiana, not far from the murky shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

At age 5, a delighted Art found his name on the cover of a heavy, handsomely bound book in the family bookcase.  He was transfixed by the paintings inside but it was many years 'til his dreams and passions of being a fine artist would find a place in his every day life. He went away to Ringling School of Art in Florida and then Lamar University in Texas, graduated from both and earned a B.A.  In 1983, with the memory of songs of the Beach Boys' promise of fun in the California sun, he loaded everything he owned into a toy-sized U-Haul and found himself in Los Angeles along with the thousands of other dreamers who were pouring into LA at that time.

Weeks became an advertising Art Director and changed ad agencies almost as often as he changed hairstyles.  After all, it was the 80s. He created several well-known TV commercials and print campaigns,  He won many awards, made TV commercials in amazing places around the world and all the while kept painting, sculpting and taking classes in both art and writing. He even found time for a solo show featuring 30 of his paintings in the late 90's.

Time passed in a blur of meetings and clients. Suddenly it's 2006. Art heard the siren call ... left the commercial world to immerse himself fully into the Art scene.  But marketing skills, of course, always come in handy and they did here - helping Art bag no less than 18 solo and group exhibitions of his work by the end of 2007.  Among them, the Lawrence Asher Gallery Summer Group Show and the October Lawrence Asher Gallery duo show.
